5 places for post-work drinks in Covent Garden
By Gus Williams
O ur London office sits on the doorstep of Covent Garden and we’re spoilt for choice when it comes to after-work drinks. Often with colleagues, sometimes with clients, choosing where to grab a drink can be the hardest decision of the day. To make that choice easier, I’ve pulled together a guide to the best bars of Covent Garden that strike the right professional-casual tone.
Starting off very close to home, Somerset House’s Terrace Bar is set on the building’s south-facing terrace overlooking The Thames. There is a lot to love about our London office, and this is another reason why we’re lucky to work in such a great place. The outdoor bar is surrounded by fantastic architecture, trees, and a view of the South Bank across the river. For our London team, this is a go-to place for an afterwork drink – especially in the summer.
Do note the outdoor bar closes over the winter, so make sure you double check if it’s open when you visit.
More affectionately known as The Toilet Bar, CellarDoor is a Fourth Day favourite. The Toilet Bar may not sound glamorous, located in a defunct Victorian public toilet, but it certainly is when you descend the stairs from its inconspicuous entrance. It is Covent Garden’s smallest bar and one that is fantastic for a low-key, casual chat after a long workday.
In CellarDoor, you can bump into almost anyone from across Covent Garden’s vibrant network of businesses.

Larry's - "The bar is a place to impress where you can find yourself marveling at the arches in the basement of London’s most famous gallery."Gus Williams Junior Account Manager
If you walk along the Strand from Somerset House, you’ll reach Trafalgar Square and The National Portrait Gallery. Underneath the latter is somewhat of a hidden gem – Larry’s. It’s a regular for our team outings. The bar is a place to impress where you can find yourself marveling at the arches in the basement of London’s most famous gallery.
Larry’s has cultivated a smooth atmosphere through live jazz, 50s-themed cocktails and art-deco furniture.
An alternative choice, but Club Soda is recommended for when the next morning is full of important meetings. Operating under the mantra of mindful drinking, this bar is located in the heart of Covent Garden and is a fantastic choice for those who don’t drink alcohol. Club Soda offers free samples for you to try out its range, from beers to spirits, meaning there is something for everyone.
If you’re a newcomer to the world of no and low-alcohol drinks, their tasting room is a great place to start.

Plume Wine Bar - "the Fourth Day recommendation if you’re hoping to impress clients"Gus Williams Junior Account Executive
When I first started to put together recommendations for post-work drinks, I was told that I may find the lock changed to the office if I omitted one bar in particular. There was little way I could go about talking of London bars and places to impress without bringing Plume into the conversation. Good wine seems a pre-requisite for a wine bar – but for Plume, great wine is the standard. Beyond the drinks, the true value of Plume is found downstairs, where the seating space is magnificent. The decoration, shown in the feature image in this blog, speaks for itself.
Rounding off a list of worthy bars in Covent Garden, Plume is the Fourth Day recommendation if you’re hoping to impress clients, colleagues, or to just enjoy a drink on your own.
